Marc Lombardo has spent more than a decade in the Massachusetts House building a record of far-right extremism in a state that overwhelmingly rejects it. He’s one of the only lawmakers in Massachusetts who voted to allow conversion therapy on LGBTQ+ youth, tried to dismantle the state’s LGBTQ Youth Commission, and consistently opposed reproductive rights and inclusive education.
Lombardo represents Billerica, a Boston suburb that has moved sharply toward Democrats in recent elections. The town flipped to Biden in 2020, Democrats now outnumber Republicans in voter registration, and the electorate is younger, more diverse, and increasingly independent. Lombardo hasn’t faced a serious challenger since this shift began, but the data is clear: his base is shrinking, his views are extreme, and his time is running out.
He may be a longtime incumbent, but his campaign for re-election in 2026 starts now. So does ours.
He’s exposed. He’s out of step. He’s beatable.
Anti-LGBTQ+ & Anti-Family Record
Lombardo is among the most openly anti-LGBTQ+ legislators in Massachusetts.
In 2019, he was one of only 8 lawmakers to vote against banning conversion therapy for minors; the bill passed 147–8.
In 2015, he filed a bill to eliminate the Massachusetts Commission on LGBTQ Youth; the legislature rejected it.
He has opposed inclusive education and civil rights protections for LGBTQ+ students and families.
Attacks on Reproductive Freedom
Lombardo voted against H.4954 (2022), which expanded reproductive health protections after the fall of Roe v. Wade.
The bill protected abortion access, ensured gender-affirming care was shielded from out-of-state prosecution, and safeguarded patient/provider privacy.
He also voted against the ROE Act, which removed barriers to abortion access and updated outdated laws.
He has been endorsed by Massachusetts Citizens for Life, an anti-abortion lobbying group.
His record consistently supports government control over pregnancy decisions and opposes reproductive rights.
A Decade of Culture War Politics
Lombardo repeatedly files legislation aligned with far-right national culture war agendas.
Targets include LGBTQ+ youth programs, trans student protections, and abortion access.
He has consistently opposed civil rights and inclusion policies even as Massachusetts voters move in the opposite direction.
He offers no substantial plans for core issues like housing, affordability, or education.
Instead, he focuses on divisive efforts to roll back rights and social supports.
Key Vulnerabilities
In 2024, Lombardo won re-election with 60.2% of the vote—without a Democratic opponent; his only challenger was an independent.
Billerica, the heart of his district, voted for Joe Biden in 2020 by a 10-point margin (54% to 44%).
As of 2024, Democrats outnumber Republicans 2-to-1 in voter registration.
Lombardo has not faced a serious, party-backed challenger since this political shift began.
His electoral strength is untested against a well-funded Democrat in a high-turnout year like 2026.
His core support base is aging, and his views are increasingly misaligned with the district’s values.
Marc Lombardo has spent his political career attacking LGBTQ+ kids, voting against reproductive freedom, and pushing far-right culture war legislation. He’s never faced a real challenge in the new, Democratic-trending version of his district, but that era is over.
He has:
A record of opposing LGBTQ+ rights and youth safety
A consistent pattern of anti-abortion votes
A district that flipped to Biden and now outpaces GOP registration 2:1
A voting record completely out of step with suburban, independent Massachusetts voters
