Meet Texas’ Most Beatable Bigot:  Rep. John Lujan

John Lujan is a two-term Republican incumbent in one of the most Democratic-leaning state House districts in Texas. Since flipping House District 118 in a low-turnout special election, Lujan has built a hardline conservative record completely out of step with his San Antonio constituents. He voted to ban gender-affirming care for trans youth, backed school voucher plans that would defund public education, and told voters he would force his own daughter to give birth if she were raped.

In 2024, Lujan barely held on, winning re-election by just 3.5% in a district that voted for Joe Biden by 14 points. His district is 73% Latino, increasingly young, and moving further left every cycle. Lujan may be popular with party bosses in Austin, but voters in San Antonio have had enough.

She may have squeaked by in 2024, but voters now know her record now. The election is in 2026 but the race has already begun. She is exposed. She is extreme. She is beatable.

Anti-LGBTQ+ and Anti-Family Record

  • Voted for SB 14 (2023), banning all gender-affirming care for trans youth.

  • Law shut down clinics, blocked access to puberty blockers and hormone therapy, and forced families to leave Texas for care.

  • Ignored opposition from every major medical association and pleas from LGBTQ+ youth, families, and doctors.

  • For District 118, home to thousands of LGBTQ+ families, this vote was seen as a direct attack.

A Dangerous Anti-Abortion Agenda

  • At a 2024 forum, said he would not support abortion access even for a pregnant rape victim.

  • Told audience he “wouldn’t allow” his own daughter to have an abortion in that case.

  • Supports Texas’ total abortion ban with no exceptions for rape, incest, or health risks.

  • Consistently opposed any attempts to create exceptions or expand reproductive rights.

  • Positions are extreme and deeply out of step with district values of family, freedom, and privacy.

Culture War Over Constituents

  • Votes align with far-right leadership in Austin, not San Antonio families.

  • Supported Abbott’s plan to divert public school funds to private religious academies.

  • Backed budget threats that tied school funding to voucher approval.

  • Silent as leaders attacked DEI programs, inclusive curriculum, and LGBTQ+ protections.

  • Never broke with his party or defended local teachers, families, or schools.

Key Vulnerabilities

  • Only Republican holding a Biden-carried Texas House district. Biden won HD-118 by 14 points in 2020.

  • District is 73% Latino, younger, and trending more progressive each cycle.

  • Lujan has never won more than 52%:
    • 2022: 51.8% to 48.2%
    • 2024: 51.7% to 48.3%

  • Margins show weakness, not strength.

  • Progressive and pro-choice groups already investing heavily, with national backing for 2026.

  • Presidential turnout and energized electorate create prime conditions to flip the seat.

John Lujan has spent his career siding with the most extreme members of the Texas Legislature. He voted to ban gender-affirming care. He said he’d deny his own daughter an abortion if she were raped. He backed policies that defund public schools and attack inclusion.

He has:

  • A far-right record on LGBTQ+ rights, abortion, and education

  • A 3.5% win margin in a Biden +14 district

  • No record of standing up to Republican leadership

  • No plan to help the working families of San Antonio

He is not aligned with his community. And now his community is ready to hold him accountable.

John Lujan is Texas’                 top 50-for-50 target.
